If Anthony Canino’s credo “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity” is true, he was the luckiest coach in Illinois high school history. The record achieved by his athletes— a product of immense preparation and discipline— reflects Canino’s impressive reputation. In his time at Hinsdale Central High School, he went 239-7 in dual meets, which included seven consecutive conference championships, six straight district titles and three State Championships. Seven of his athletes were individual State Champions, while four were crowned National Champions. During his tenure at HCHS, Canino was twice named Illinois High School Gymnastics Coach of the Year and National High School Gymnastics Coach of the Year and was an Honoree in the IHSA Gymnastics Coaches Hall of Fame.
